Mumbai Local trains after a long wait of 3 months are back on tracks for the smooth commute of essential service workers. The Mumbai Local trains are scheduled to operate between 5.30 to 11.30 hours restricted and only for an estimated 1.25 lakh frontline workers. The Central and Western Railway zone in a late night Tweet had mentioned about operating suburban services for harbor line and mainline from today and released SOP for the same.

The Central and Western Railway zone of Indian Railways on 14th June had sent a Tweet conveying about the operation of Mumbai Local trains from today. It further conveyed that suburban services for harbor line and mainline will operate from today and released SOP for the same.

About the operation of Mumbai Local trains from today:-
There has been an announcement made by Western Railways for the operation of 73 pairs of suburban services. Out of these, eight are scheduled between Virar and Dahanu, while maximum services will be operated between Churchgate and Virar destinations and up to Dahanu road, few.
Whereas, 200 services of trains to operate for Central Railways, and 120 for WR daily. These include operation of 130 between CSMT to Kalyan, Karjat and Kasara while 70 to Panvel.
The halts for these Mumbai local trains will be only for the major stations and timing shall be 10 hrs, 15 hrs, 7 hrs, 9 hrs, 23 hrs, 21 hrs. These shall be for arrival while 23 hrs, 21 hrs, 18 hrs, 15 hrs, 9 hrs, 7 hrs for the departure from the CSMT station.
About the SOP released for the operation of Mumbai Local trains from today:-
According to SOP released, the entry would only be permitted for essential workers through their ID cards. There will be operation of certain booking issuing tickets only on the basis of ID cards and with QR based E-passes. These will also carry color coding with a view to conduct ticket checking more swiftly while decision is made for extension of season tickets.
These will be extended up to the days while GRP/RPF will also be deployed on stations. Multiple rounds shall also be conducted in order to ensure that frontline workers are on board. It would be made sure that the frontline workers boarding are fit medically while also they do not come from containment zones.
Instead of 1,200 passengers normally boarding a train, only 700 shall be allowed for maintenance of social distancing and crowding is discouraged on the station. Ambulances will also be available in case of emergency with proper medical staff and no hawkers are allowed along with Parking Zones too.
