The liquor shops open on Monday morning and see an unexpected rush of people flocking up close to each other. People rush and throng inside the shops and hoard liquor as if there is no tomorrow.
Liquor shops reopen as per the guidelines passed, that are excluding from containment zones. The liquor shops which are stand alone and not in a mall or shopping complexes were allowed to be opened maintaining proper social distancing. The guidelines passed by the government consisted of maintaining proper social distancing and precautionary measures.
It instructed to have only five customers at once and they should carry their own bag to avoid any excess contact. They should not forget to wear a mask or cover their face. Online and digital transactions were advised and motivated. These were the rules instructed but as soon as the shutter opened people gathered in crowds forgetting the importance of their own life.
Such a thoughtless congestion has just increased the chances of infection. There are also reports coming up that the retailers are stating that due to excessive hoarding, their stocks would dry out soon. The liquor shops will be opened in all zones except containment zones according to the timings given by the state. The Delhi government has asked the departments for a list of shops adhering to the guidelines.
Liquor shops also come under the category of non-essentials so in some states they would be opened from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. only. The Delhi government has issued an order to open 150 liquor shops out of 850 shops run by private individuals. These relaxations were according to the government and would be opened from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. There would be security personnel operating to maintain precautionary measures.
Apart from these rules, the liquor shops in Delhi witnessed long queues of people. The people became so blind behind their drinks they were clapping, cheering, and doing aarti without keeping risk of infection in mind. People were seen over enthusiastic and queued up from 7 a.m. and hoarded till they dropped
The Chhattisgarh government had allowed the shops to open from 8 a.m. to 7p.m. though districts are permitted for choice of timings. They are also thinking to start service of home delivering liquor to curtail spread of infection. People gathering without maintaining the distance had created a lot of congestion in the shops. The shop there had marked positions for distancing but two people could be seen standing in place of one.
The Karnataka state had permitted from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. the liquor shops to be opened from May 4 and issued guidelines. Hubli and Bangalore comparatively witnessed lighter crowding following the rules. In Kolar, a man breaking coconut in front of a shop and doing arti out of happiness could be seen too. Maharashtra had minimized the opening of liquor shops and in some places where shops were closed but people thought it to be opened had reached. Police had dispersed this crowd of people away from the shops.
Punjab and Kerala have completely prohibited while Himachal Pradesh waives off license fee of the liquor vendors and reopens from May 4. Assam allows sale of foreign and country made liquor which were allowed from beginning but in between closed because of Guidelines passed.
